How To Save Flickr Photos On Iphone

kmacgray bilang:

FlickR?

I just tried this in the iOS app using one of your images, and it worked as expected. There is no option to save the image because you have disabled downloading.

Latest Flickr app, iPad Pro, iOS 13.4.1

You will always be able to download your own images while signed in.

Can you provide a link to an image that isn't your own where you see this happening?

I can do the same with your latest photos despite the fact that you've disabled downloading them. Using desktop Opera / Windows 10.
All sizes -> Right click -> Context menu -> Save image as -> done!

Not the originals, though, unless the owner allows viewing the originals.

And with Firefox or Edge on Win10, I need to go "Inspect Element" first, to download the sizes we are allowed to view, but supposedly not to download.

Also if you turn off Flickr Fixr browser extension (or the last feature on its Options Page) ?

(I have sometimes considered removing that feature, even if it is not meant for downloading)

Right! I mean no...
If I turn off your Fixr the "Save image" option disappears.

Just hit Ctrl-I in Firefox and switch to the media tab.

Sure, there's always lot of ways. I think the point was if Flickr's intended obstacles was working as expected.

Well, if the OP never returns, we won't know their details.

In my testing, it's working correctly.

I think the keyword that is missing from most posts, except Viejito's, is the "original image". Flickr's protection only extends to original images and everything else is there for anyone to see and download.

Now Flickr even propagates the copyright into display images, so this got better in the last year or so.

This isn't the case in the iOS app. If downloading is turned off, then you can't download any size, original or otherwise.

If it's about Flickr's app showing controls to save images or not based on this setting, then indeed it's a Flickr issue if the app shows controls correctly with regards to the setting.

On Android images can be saved only via the sharing button and sharing and downloading are two different settings on Flickr. Could it be that the iOS app interprets those separately?

That's how it works in the iOS app for me. There is no option to save the image when I tap on the share arrow on the OP's photos. There is a save image option on my own photos and for people who allow downloading.

It would be helpful if the OP could clarify what they are seeing.

That's what I'm saying.

If downloading is turned off, then the option to save an image to a device doesn't appear. If it's turned on, it appears.

The iOS share sheet includes both the sharing and download options. An image can still be shared (Facebook, etc.) even if it can't be downloaded.

The original issue was (primarily?) regarding the iOS app, but I think your comment is also about web, including the "All Sizes" page which Marta was referring to. And the "All Sizes" acts different for both "original image" and "display images" when download permission is turned off...

When download permission is turned off, there will be a layer above all images on the "All Sizes" page preventing you to get the image-related options from the webbrowser's context menu when right-clicking on [a layer above] the images (Well, at least as long as you are nor using some browser extension modifying Flickr - as I knew Marta was).

And yes, you don't need much technical/browser knowledge - or search Google for very long time - to find a way to get any image file displayed in a webbrowser, but that's another story...

Yeah. Mabel and I went at it a short while back:

It was more general and about what may be considered as a Flickr bug when any of images shown by Flickr can be saved outside of Flickr's environment. That is, when downloading is turned off, Flickr should not provide application controls to save display images and should make it impossible to download original images.

The former is only a deterrent in any environment - the web, Android or IOS because images need to be displayed in the app. For example, not having the download menu in the web app would suffice, but the original Flickr developers went the extra mile and added the transparent layer above images.

Sharing is more complex in the sense that Flickr's sharing is different in meaning from Android's sharing. The former provides a way to post an image to another online app, while the latter transfers an image to another Android app, which means basically that it can be saved, so there is really no distinction. kmacgray highlighted above that the iOS app behaves differently.

And in the Android app, if downloading is disabled, the message "sharing has been disabled for this photo" appears when tapping the share icon.
